The Chartered Institute of Leadership and Governance (CILG), Nigeria Chapter, under the leadership of Segun Ojarotade, Country Director, has officially launched Project 774,000 Youths in Leadership and Governance, a bold national initiative designed to develop a new generation of ethical, competent, and transformational leaders across Nigeria.
Project 774,000 is one of the largest youth leadership development initiatives in the country. It is strategically designed to reach all 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Nigeria through a network of dedicated Volunteer Project Coordinators. Each Project Coordinator will recruit, mentor, train, and support 1,000 young people within their assigned Local Government Area, creating a nationwide movement of informed and responsible young leaders.
The initiative was conceived by Segun Ojarotade out of his deep commitment to youth empowerment and his vision of building stronger leadership institutions across Africa. Having observed significant gaps in leadership capacity, governance knowledge, ethical decision making, and civic responsibility among many emerging leaders, he developed the project as a practical solution to prepare young people for leadership in government, business, education, civil society, and their communities.
Segun Ojarotade is a Senior Business Lecturer in the United Kingdom, an AI strategist, leadership expert, researcher, and international development advocate. Throughout his career, he has trained and mentored thousands of professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, public servants, and young leaders across Africa and beyond. His work focuses on developing ethical leadership, strengthening governance systems, promoting innovation, and preparing future leaders to solve complex societal challenges.
The foundation for Project 774,000 was laid in 2022, following the successful empowerment of over 10,000 youths through leadership and governance training programmes delivered in partnership with educational institutions, youth organisations, and professional bodies. Building on that success, the project now seeks to empower 774,000 Nigerian youths by 2027, equipping them with the knowledge, values, skills, and mindset required to become transformational leaders who will positively influence their communities and contribute to national development.
Participants in the programme will receive structured training covering key areas including:
* Foundations of Leadership
* Ethical Leadership and Integrity
* Principles of Good Governance

Through Project 774,000, we are creating opportunities for young Nigerians in every Local Government Area to develop the competence, character, and confidence required to lead with integrity and make meaningful contributions to national development.
Project 774,000 Youths in Leadership and Governance represents CILG Nigeria’s long-term commitment to raising ethical leaders, strengthening democratic values, promoting accountable governance, and empowering young people to become catalysts for sustainable development across Nigeria.
