A bold national movement to raise a new generation of ethical, competent, and transformational leaders begins.
The Chartered Institute of Leadership and Governance (CILG), Nigeria Chapter, has announced the launch of Project 774,000 Youths in Leadership and Governance, an ambitious national initiative championed by Segun Ojarotade, Country Director of CILG Nigeria. The project aims to empower 774,000 young Nigerians across the country’s 774 Local Government Areas by 2027.
The initiative was born out of growing concerns about the leadership and governance challenges facing Nigeria. Despite having one of the world’s largest youth populations, many young people have limited access to structured leadership education, civic engagement, governance training, mentorship, and practical opportunities to prepare them for positions of influence. Project 774,000 seeks to bridge this gap by developing ethical leaders with the knowledge, skills, values, and vision required to transform their communities and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Under the programme, one Volunteer Project Coordinator will be appointed in each Local Government Area, with responsibility for recruiting, mentoring, and training 1,000 youths within their community. Participants will receive practical training in ethical leadership, good governance, civic responsibility, entrepreneurship, digital leadership, public policy, conflict resolution, community development, and nation building.
Speaking on the launch, Segun Ojarotade a Senior Business Lecturer in the United Kingdom and internationally recognised leadership strategist, stated that sustainable national development begins with intentional leadership development. He noted that investing in young people today is the most effective way to build stronger institutions, promote accountability, strengthen democracy, and secure Nigeria’s future.
Project 774,000 represents one of the largest youth leadership development initiatives in Nigeria and reflects CILG Nigeria’s commitment to developing a generation of leaders equipped to lead with integrity, competence, innovation, and a deep sense of public service.
